Lawyer Rishi Hurdoyal, who represents businessman Khalil Ramoly, has been accused of interference by one of Icac’s lawyers. The latter, Mr Lovendra Nulliah denounced Mr Hurdoyal to the Bar Association. In his letter, he states that on 8 March 2023, before the intermediate court, where Khalil Ramoly was to appear, Mr Rishi Hurdoyal approached him. There, referring to Khalil Ramoly, he told him that he was ‘one of us’ and to see what he (Mr Nulliah) ‘could do’. Mr Nulliah added that officially Mr Hurdoyal did not appear for Khalil Ramoly that day. However, he added that the lawyer is present every time the businessman appears in court. For Nulliah, this was a “blatant attempt” to influence him to use his position as prosecuting counsel to find a favourable outcome for the suspect. Nulliah said he reported the case to the Icac, made a diary entry and informed Magistrate Rangasamy of the incident.
