Covered in several languages, the song Manike Mage Hithe by Yohani de Silva and Satheeshan is going around the world. Nivesh Pargass has just released the Mauritian Creole version of this global hit.
With over 128 million views on YouTube, Manike Mage Hithe’s cover has gone viral since its release in May this year.
A graphic designer with a passion for music, Nivesh was the first to put the song in Mauritian: “This song is making the buzz right now and I thought why not cover it in Creole. After the success of a sample I posted on Tik Tok, many people showed me their appreciation. That’s what encouraged me to post a longer version on my Facebook page last Thursday,” explains the 28-year-old Fond du Sac resident.
And to his amazement, the song will attract even more interactions: “This is the first time one of my videos has generated so many interactions. I’m happy that Mauritians like it.
However, this is not Nivesh’s first translation: “Translating a popular song into Creole is my modest contribution to the appreciation of the language here and elsewhere. In the past, I have also translated songs such as Tujhe kitna Chahne lage hum, Can you feel the love tonight and Libérée, délivrée into Creole. All these songs are available on my YouTube channel,” says Nivesh, who has no intention of stopping there.
