The number of pupils who passed the National Certificate of Education (NCE) examinations in 2022-23 was 10,832, representing a pass rate of 74.6%. This was announced by the Director of the MES to the press on Friday.
A total of 725 students obtained eight units.
In her statement to the press, the Director of the Mauritius Examination Syndicate, Brenda Thanacoody Soborun, stressed that this year’s performance was “commendable” and that an improvement had been noted.
The NCE results were made public on Friday 1 December. A total of 14,527 pupils took part in these assessments.
For the NCE 2021/22 exams, the pass rate was 65.4%.
Mrs Thanacoody Soborun expressed her satisfaction with regards to the substantial overall improvements in students’ performance, particularly highlighting the progress in subjects like English, Science, French, and ICT.
Noting the participation of 2 149 students from the Extended Programme in the NCE Assessment, she emphasised that those who did not achieve the NQF 2 standard received a comprehensive Statement of Attainment, outlining their subject-wise performance.
She also spoke of the Bright Up Programme launched by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology and specifically designed for students who do not succeed in the NCE. The MES Director, moreover, provided words of encouragement to those who did not meet the expected standards, advising them to persevere and aim for success by intensifying their efforts. Regarding the correction procedure, she reassured that it was executed meticulously to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of the obtained results.
For Mauritius, the overall pass rate stands at 75.1% with 80.5% for girls and 69.6% for boys. Whereas the success rate for Rodrigues stands at 66.6% and that for Agalega at 57.1%.
