On Friday last week, a clean-up operation was carried out at the former Trou Fanfaron police station, a national heritage site. For five hours, police officers from the Metropolitan Police’s northern division, elements of the Special Supporting Unit, police planters, employees of the Port-Louis municipality, those of the Ministry of Health and volunteers cleaned up the site. Four truckloads of garbage were removed from the site. During this operation, a police planton was injured by a syringe. He was taken to the Dr Bouloux health center in Cassis for treatment.
The clean-up operation took place between 7.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, under the supervision of Assistant Police Commissioner Mohunlall Madhow, the divisional commander. The metal fence on top of the stone and concrete fence was completely damaged. Access to the courtyard and the former police station was open to intruders. Some had even squatted on the premises. Existing structures had even been removed. Illegal activities were also taking place inside the building.
A dozen sheets of sheet metal representing a danger to passers-by will be removed shortly during another clean-up operation.
On Monday August 14, 2017, a violent fire had ravaged this former police station, which was already unoccupied.
