In the context of Music Day 2023, a series of activities are being organised, today, by the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage to celebrate the importance of music.
In a statement, the Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr Avinash Teeluck, indicated that the Day was an opportunity to acknowledge the importance of music in one’s life and to pay tribute to artists. “The Day,” he said, “encourages musicians to perform in public spaces, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere for people to enjoy music.”
He spoke of the status of the Artist Bill, which has as objective, to provide better assistance to artists and promote the status of professionals in the Arts. “It will also enhance the social and economic status of professionals in Arts and implement the State Recognition Allowance scheme and pension scheme for professionals,” he added.
Minister Teeluck remarked that Music Day 2023 was being celebrated with great pomp and spirit, especially post COVID-19 pandemic. He thus urged the public to participate actively in the celebrations and support the local artists.
To promote the event among the public, musical performances are being held at different venues in Port Louis, namely, Place d’Armes; Victoria Urban Terminal; Air Mauritius Building; Royal Street near Bank of Mauritius; and Jardin de La Compagnie.
The Police Marching Band will also be present for a musical performance.
Activities on the agenda comprise as well Chinese music – flute, violin and percussion; popular tunes on bagpipes; Hindustani and Western music; Sufi music and Ghazals; Sega Tipik and modern music; Carnatic music and Marathi folk music.
