Mrs Nokamah Veeragavoodoo, born on 19 March 1924, celebrated her 100th birthday, yesterday, at Ex College Bradley in Long Mountain.
The Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mrs Marie Joanne Sabrina Tour, family members, and friends were present at the centenarian celebration.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity offered to Mrs Veeragavoodoo, a cheque of Rs 26,203; a Tefal Super Cook set; a bouquet of flower; the centenarian medal; and a certificate for her service. The National Solidarity Fund of the Ministry gave her a cheque of Rs 10,000. Gifts were also presented to her by the Senior Citizen Council.
Mrs Veeragavoodoo was born at Mon Loisir Estate. She got civilly married on 28 January 1951 with Mr Permal Veeragavoodoo, a labourer at Belle Vue Sugar Estate. She worked as labourer. She has seven sons and three daughters, 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren.
