He gave this confirmation in a letter dated Monday, November 15 and addressed to Judge Nirmala Devat. Mr. Désiré Basset states that he is of the opinion that he is not professionally embarrassed by representing Pravind Jugnauth in the case related to the private lawsuit initiated against him by Suren Dayal.
He recalls that he obtained the written opinion of the Bar Council on this very day where the Council leaves it to him to evaluate the situation and make a decision. He therefore states that he has decided to represent Pravind Jugnauth and to be present at the Court on November 17 for the appeal of the case.
Recall that the point raised by the lawyers of Suren Dayal is that Me Désiré Basset, legal representative of Pravind Jugnauth, had served on the Electoral Commission in 2019, which constitutes, according to them, a conflict of interest.
