Forty-two. That’s the number of deaths on our roads so far this year. The latest victim is that of Shivam Bheekhy, also known as Ashish aged 30 and living in Highlands was killed on the Port-Louis freeway at the rear of the Emcar building. He reportedly lost control of his two wheels before landing on the asphalt on Sunday April 21 while it was raining. Shivam Bheekhy was driving towards Pailles at the time of the accident. An autopsy on his body attributed his death to multiple injuries.
The accident occurred shortly after 1pm on Sunday April 21. Shivam Bheekhy was riding his Yamaha motorcycle towards Pailles. At some point he lost control of his two wheels and fell heavily onto the asphalt. It was raining heavily at the time of the accident. Police officers from the Casernes Centrales police station were immediately alerted and rushed to the scene of the accident.
The thirty-year-old was lying on his back, bleeding from the mouth. His blood was splattered all over the road. His road-colored motorcycle was some twenty meters from his body. At 1:30 p.m., an ambulance from the Service d’Aide Médicale d’Urgence arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, the doctor on board was unable to pronounce her dead. Her body was subsequently taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, at 6 p.m., attributed his death to multiple injuries.
Shivam Bheekhy’s funeral took place on Monday April 22 at 12.30 pm. He was cremated at Circonstance, Saint Pierre.
An investigation has been launched at the Central Barracks police station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this accident.
