A 62-year-old woman living in the Raffray morcellement area of Pailles has lodged a complaint against her drug-addicted son, who is giving her a hard time. She went to the Pailles police station on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 24 to report the abuse she had suffered on the morning of the same day. Her son was arrested on the morning of Wednesday, October 25 and brought before the Port-Louis court, where he is facing a provisional charge of elder abuse.
In her deposition, the 60-year-old woman explained that at around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, her son, whom she had evacuated from her home in 2020 because of his bad company and drug habits, arrived at the house.
He wanted access to the inside of the house, but she wouldn’t open the door. Her son cut an electric wire fence to gain access inside to hide. He continuously knocked on the door, but she opened it for him. Her son then had to call her names. The 60-year-old woman says she fears for her safety, as her son often harasses her. The situation has become unbearable, especially as her husband is a heart patient.
She intends to seek the advice of a man of the law, to prevent her son from approaching their home in the future. She also plans to go to the Ministry of Gender Equality’s section dealing with the protection of the elderly.
