The second edition of the Mauritius International Art Fair (MIAF) will take place from June 22 to 26, 2022 at the Galérie du Génie, EDITH in Port-Louis. The kick-off took place on Thursday, June 09 with a press conference. After the success of the first edition of MIAF in 2019, this second edition promises to be more rewarding with several partners who have joined this initiative of the renowned artist and curator Zaahirah Muthy, a Mauritian who has proven herself internationally. This year’s theme is “Bridge the Gap; Build the Future”.
Zaahirah Muthy mentions the collective support of the Economic Development Board of Mauritius (EDB) and other partners such as Edith by Lavastone Properties, Vivo Energy Mauritius, Phoenix Beverages Group, Mauvilac, Air Mauritius, Le Meridien Hotel, Hennessy Park Hotel, British Council, Fashion & Design Institute, Chinatown Foundation, Future Hope, Zethical, Pêche Avenir as well as MTPA and MBC as a media partner. This event sees itself as a synergy of culture, creativity, diversity and symbiosis to be offered on the African continent and surrounding regions. MIAF’s vision is to promote art in its multiple facets and to make Mauritius an artistic and cultural destination, while highlighting its richness and heritages. This artistic gathering is a long awaited opportunity for local and international artists to showcase their talents after two tumultuous years of Covid-19.
The idea is to showcase the artists’ works of art and to create a collective platform to promote Mauritius as a cultural destination that vibrates with talent and know-how. A day dedicated to art is also on the agenda with several cultural associations. This is to promote a cultural and artistic exchange among talents from here and elsewhere to create a synergy.
Also on the agenda is a conference on the theme of Art & Finance which will be an integral part of MIAF 2022 to focus attention on the future of art in the business world. The introduction of investment in art will also be discussed during one of the conferences. The goal is to engage in a global discussion and seize investment opportunities around art. A panel discussion on the ‘Tokenization of Arts’ will also be on the agenda to raise awareness on NFT which aligns with the launch of ‘Arts Connects Women Digital’, the first digital platform for women on NFT.
Note that this edition of MIAF 2022 is also a platform to bring together art and sustainable development. This is in collaboration with the British Council who wants to create awareness among local artists and insert it in their artworks on the theme ‘SDGs through Arts’.
