Metro Express: Infrastructural Works To Be Carried Out In The Vicinity Of Sadally

The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo, effected, on Monday, a site visit at Sadally Junction, along Sivananda Road, in the context of the implementation of Phase 2B of the Metro Express Project.

The Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Limited (Mauritius), Dr Das Mootanah, the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Mr Gilbert Bablee, representatives of several organisations such as Larsen & Toubro, the National Land Transport Authority, the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit and the Mauritius Police Force as well as other personalities were present at the site visit.

In a statement, Minister Ganoo expressed satisfaction with regard to the progress of works concerning the Metro Express Project and highlighted that the aim of the visit was to take stock of infrastructural works that need to be carried out so as to enable the inhabitants of the locality to easily access the Sadally metro station.

He observed that there is a need to encourage the inhabitants to use the Metro Express and increase its ridership once it will be operational in the region. As such, he pointed out, it is necessary to put at their disposal facilities such as a shuttle service, additional bus stops and good pathways.

Moreover, Minister Ganoo indicated that consideration is being given to the provision of laybys along the road between Floréal and Sadally metro stations and, as at date, three spots have already been identified for same.

According to him, the Sadally metro station will be ready by end of February 2022, while the track between Quatre Bornes and Vacoas will be operational in a few months’ time. He further reminded that by the end of 2022, the Metro Express will be operational between Quatre Bornes and Curepipe, as well as between Rose Hill and Réduit, through Ebène.

For his part, Dr Mootanah recalled that the Metro Express Project is a social and innovative one. He underscored that 80% of works have been completed along the track Quatre Bornes-Curepipe and commended all stakeholders involved in this project.

As for PPS Bablee, he lauded every stakeholder of the Metro Express Project and expressed his hope that the Metro Express will be fully operational between Curepipe and Port Louis by end of next year.
