The 9th edition of the MCB Indian Ocean Open organized by the Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) will be held from June 16 to 18, 2023. The event will take place on the 18-hole championship course at Heritage Golf Club. This 6th edition is once again sponsored by Mauritius Commercial Bank.
The MCB Indian Ocean Open remains a must-attend event for local and international amateur golfers. Indeed, it counts towards the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
The 2023 edition will feature over 50 players from the region, including 30 from Mauritius. The other players come from the following countries: Tunisia, Namibia, Kenya, La Réunion, Madagascar and the Seychelles, among others.
For Yannick Merven, President of the Mauritius Golf Federation, the event is a springboard for local golfers: “The new edition of the MCB Indian Ocean Open will enable local players to gain valuable experience by taking on top-level players. The success of previous editions has already established this competition as a must-attend event for local and international golfers. What’s more, unlike the other competitions the MGF organizes throughout the year, this mixed competition is played in gross strokeplay and counts towards the world amateur rankings.”
As a reminder, this mixed competition takes place over 54 holes, in gross strokeplay format over three days. This year, it brings together professionals and amateurs with a maximum handicap of 12.4. Participants are ranked in two ways: the first is a general ranking for all categories, and the second is a ranking by category – Professional, Amateur, Mid-Amateur (30+) and Seniors (50+). Various prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category, and the overall winner will take home the MCB Indian Ocean Open 2023 winner’s trophy.
On the green this year will be some of the best golfers in the Indian Ocean region. Among them, Fred Lam Soo from Reunion Island. The men from Mauritius include Vishnoo Seeneevassen, currently number one in the MCB National Order of Merit – Pro Category, Rakesh Channoo, currently number one in the MCB National Order of Merit Amateur Category, and Tanishq Nobeen, currently number one in the National Order of Merit Junior Ranking. In the Ladies category, Nathalie Serret, ranked number one in the MCB National Order of Merit in 2022, will be playing in the Senior category.
