The 2022 Open Africa-Middle East Championships of Foil Kitesurfing will be held for the first time at Pointe d’Esny in Mauritius from 26 to 31 August.
In this context, the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation in collaboration with the Mauritius Yachting Association organised, this afternoon, an official presentation of the event at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex.
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Stephan Toussaint; the President of the Mauritius Yachting Association, Mr Florian Bétuel; and other personalities were present on this occasion.
In his address, Minister Toussaint highlighted that this competition will regroup athletes from different countries. As such, he encouraged Mauritians to come in numbers to watch the competition at the Mahebourg Waterfront.
Furthermore, the Minister underlined that works for the holding of this competition in Mauritius started several months ago so as to enable our country to host this international event.
Speaking about the two Mauritian athletes participating in the competition, namely Mrs Julie Paturau and Mr Jean De Falbaire, the Sports Minister reminded that they form part of the Horizon Paris 2024 project and will therefore be supported by Team Mauritius and Horizon Paris 2024.
As for Mr Bétuel, he informed that 18 participants from Mauritius, Cap Vert, Seychelles and South Africa, among others, will be competing in the 2022 Open Africa-Middle East Championships. He also pointed out that the launching of the competition will be held at Preskil Island Resort in Mahebourg on 26 August 2022.
It is recalled that the opening ceremony of the 2022 Open Africa-Middle East Championships will take place on 26 August, the competition will be held from 27 to 30 August, and the prize giving ceremony will be on 31 August.
