The members of the Mauritius Bar Association have been convened to a special meeting this Tuesday. They have discussed and voted the resolution of Mr. Antoine Domingue condemning the attacks of Sun TV News against the former Chief Justice, Eddy Balancy, the DPP, Rashid Ahmine, the magistrate of the Moka Court and the barrister, Shakeel Mohamed.
The Bar Council’s Chairperson, Priscilla Balgobin-Bhoyrul held a press conference after the meeting. She explained that the resolution has been adopted unanimously. “We unreservedly condemn any gratuitous and unfounded attack against the profession, the judiciary and the office of the DPP,” she said. Priscilla Balgobin-Bhoyrul added that the Bar Council also intends to write to the President of the Republic and the Chief Justice to ask them to intervene to restore calm.
