A meticulous field investigation by elements of the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) of the Southern Division led to the arrest of Krishnaduth Caunhye, a 51-year-old contractor, on the afternoon of Tuesday 29 November. The 50-year-old is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl at his home in Route Royale, Mare Tabac. He was brought before the court of Mahébourg this Wednesday morning, November 30, before being taken back to the police cell.
In a statement made at the police station of Rose-Belle on Friday, November 25, the victim, a student in grade 7 and resident of Poste de Flacq, explained that on Monday, November 21 at around 2:30 pm, she was in the underpass of the Caudan Waterfront. At a certain moment, she was accosted by a very well dressed man. This man offered her a ride in his white 4-wheel drive vehicle. The teenager said he accepted the offer to go to the home of this individual.
The same day around 5:30 pm, she had arrived at the home of this man. During the night, they had sexual intercourse towards the 21 hours. The next day, Tuesday, November 22, they had sex around 2 a.m. On Wednesday, November 23, the girl said, they had sex around 10 p.m.
However, she explained in her statement made in the presence of her mother, on Thursday, November 24 at 7 am, she had fled from this house to go to the bus station in Flacq. The victim was admitted to the Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq where the protocol for victims of sexual abuse has been put in place. The case was referred to the Family Protection Unit and the Child Development Unit (CDU) of the Ministry of Gender Equality.
