A new political platform was formed yesterday. It brings together three extra-parliamentary opposition formations, namely 100% Citoyens, Linion Sitwayin and Groupe Réflexion Emmanuel Anquetil. The platform held its first press conference yesterday. Bruneau Laurette, one of the leaders, scratched the parliamentary opposition. “We have had the courage to take to the streets on several occasions. Have you seen the parliamentary opposition made a single street demonstration?” he asked. He also severely criticised the government whose record, in his view, “is catastrophic” while that of the extra-parliamentary opposition is “heroic”.
Valayden says there was a need to coordinate energies
For him, it is the government that is behind the regrouping of citizen forces. “The government pushed us into action,” he said, stressing the need to coordinate energies. Rama Valayden explained that the citizens’ associations were fighting common battles. It is logical that they should join forces to form a common front against a government “that lives in rot and is ready to rot people’s lives”. Rama Valayden also believes that the government is ready to “push the people to revolt in order to apply its lo”. He also announced that the route of the next protest rally in Constituency No. 8 is being finalised and that the Avengers are working on challenging the IBA Act.
“We need concrete proposals”, said Dev Sunassy
For the leader of 100% Citizens, the year 2021 was marked by a series of scandals and demands. He went back to the various events organised by the citizens’ movements, which are also extra-parliamentary forces. He referred to the various rallies, demonstrations against the IBA Act and the totalitarian excesses of the government. “On the international scene, the country’s image has taken a big hit. But our platform is ready to fight any bill that is undemocratic,” he said. Dev Sunassy also said that the current platform is “set to expand” and will come up with concrete proposals to bring about real change in the country. However, he said that the help of opposition parliamentarians will be needed.
