We are asking forcefully that students can take Kreol Morisien be taught in Higher School Certificate at subsidiary or principal level. This is what Ajay Gunness, spokesman for the MMM’s Education Committee, said in a press briefing on Friday. He said that Kreol Morisien is a national language and a source of pride for Mauritians. For Ajay Gunness, the reasons put forward by the government for not introducing Kreol Morisien at Higher School Certificate level, namely the lack of teachers and not enough literature, are mere pretexts. According to Ajay Gunness, there is a lack of political will and planning. Ajay Gunness also called for Kreol Morisien to be introduced at subsidiary level in HSC this year and at main level from next year.
The Chairman of the MMM Education Committee also reiterated the PTr-MMM-PMSD Alliance’s commitment to encouraging graduates to return to the country after their studies abroad. He insisted that meritocracy must come first. Ajay Gunness also said that there are several development hubs that need to be created or further developed in order to attract more new Mauritian talent.
