The group Kreol Diez has just reworked the song Dam dam diga diga from the 1960 film Chhalia. The trio plans to bring more Hindi songs to their fans.
A Bollywood classic from the 1960s, the song Dam dam diga diga is making a comeback and in Mauritian Creole. It is a challenge that the group Kreol Diez wanted to take up: “It was Vikram Jootun, the director of the MFDC who encouraged us to cover this song during a film shoot. We accepted the challenge even though it wasn’t easy at first because we don’t sing in Hindi,” explains Yannick Annoua, who forms the trio with Nikos and Benoît Berthelot.
After working on the translation, the group finally made the song their own: “With the help of a friend, we translated the lyrics and then we put the melody back in our own way. It goes without saying that we are very happy with the result.
In the meantime, Kreol Diez is working on another project of the same kind: “With a collective of 9 artists we want to record a song in Hindi. We are currently finalising a few things before we start working seriously on this project,” Yannick points out.
