Expressing her emotions and feelings through her art works, Jessie Gooriah is coming up with her very first solo exhibition under the theme “Between Tears and Reconciliation” from 3rd April 2022 to 19th April 2022 at ‘Lakaz Flanbwayan, Medine, Bambous’.
Jessie Gooriah, a mother to two wonderful kids, has dedicated more than 15 years of her life to the world of Art. She resides at Tayack and is an Arts teacher at Sangeelee SSS in Surinam. As an active artist, she has created many ‘chef d’oeuvre’ using different techniques, like pointillism, sculpture and more. She has had the opportunity of exposing her art works through several joint group exhibitions; but now, she has decided to go for her very first solo exhibition to affirm herself as a local artist.
Having been through a transition from pointillism to collage, the solo exhibition of Jessie will consist of 15 collage created from recycled magazines and newspapers. She found herself turning to the collage technique during the pandemic when she ran out of paint and other required materials for her paintings.
As an artist, she felt the urge to create and expose her emotions on her canvas. This is where she discovered a new technique, namely recycling old magazines and doing collage by identifying specific words and colours from those magazines. Each collage tells a unique story full of emotions and expresses specific messages and facades of life.
It took a lot of hard work, patience, energy to be able to come with this collection of art works.
She encourages the new generation to go towards Art because it is one of the best ways a person can canalise and express its emotion.
