At least 67 Palestinians were killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza overnight and into Wednesday, including in areas where residents have been advised to seek shelter.
Following several strikes in central Gaza, 44 bodies have reportedly been received by the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir al-Balah. Additionally on Wednesday, two people were killed when an Israeli operation in an area where Palestinians have been instructed to seek shelter struck a shelter housing staff in the Gaza Strip, according to the humanitarian organisation Doctors Without Borders.
The incident happened in Muwasi, a largely undeveloped, sandy strip of land along the coast that has been turned into a large tent camp with few basic amenities. The Israeli military declared that it was investigating the claims.
Israel has vowed to extend its ground offensive to the southernmost city of Rafah, which is next to Muwasi and is where hundreds of thousands of people are seeking shelter. Israel has continued to carry out strikes throughout the territory.
Over 29,000 Palestinians killed
The Israeli army has killed 107 Palestinians and injured 145 more in the last 24 hours, the Gaza-based Health Ministry said in a press release on Monday, according to Xinhua news agency.
According to the statement, as of this most recent update, 29,092 people have died and 69,028 have been injured since the Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7, 2023. It mentioned that in the midst of intense bombardment, a dearth of civil defence, and ambulance crews, some victims are still hidden beneath the debris.
