The World Autism Awareness Day, observed on 02 April, was marked by an interactive talk on Autism spectrum by Dr Vinod Ramkoosalsing, on Sunday 02 April 2023, at the Voila Hotel in Bagatelle.
Furthermore, the event coincided with the launching of an awareness brochure on the subject matter.
In a statement, the President of the Special Education Needs Authority (SENA), Mrs Savitree Oogarah, underlined that the SENA is committed to cater to the needs of children suffering from autism. She emphasised that these children have the right to an education that is tailored for their special needs and urged parents to provide them with this learning opportunity.
As for the Director of the SENA, Mr D. Authelsingh, he recalled that with the support of the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, the SENA carries out autism assessments, following which the child is channeled to a specialised school where he will be schooled by trained personnel, support teachers and carers.
