Asphyxia due to aspiration of stomach contents. This was the conclusion of the autopsy performed on the body of convict Armoogum Murday, who was found dead in his cell on the morning of January 16 at Melrose high security prison. The 37-year-old convict was serving a 28-year sentence for murder.
Armoogum Murday’s body was found unresponsive in his cell by a prison guard early on the morning of Tuesday January 16, who was opening the inmates’ cells so that they could go to work in the kitchen to prepare the meal. The guard immediately informed a nurse at the infirmary and at the same time the doctor on duty. The latter, unfortunately, declared the condemned man dead.
Armoogum Murday’s body was subsequently transferred to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department, attributed his death to asphyxiation due to the aspiration of his stomach contents.
This man had been sentenced to the Assizes by Judge Benjamin Marie-Joseph on June 19, 2018 for the murder of Panjalay Tetapoolay, known as Athé a septuagenarian at her home in Chapel Lane, L’Escalier during a burglary. This crime he had committed on November 19, 2013.
