In Goodlands: Teenager Involved In Crosswalk Accident Arrested

Must Read

A raid by police officers from the Goodlands police station in the coastal village of Cap Malheureux in the late afternoon of Thursday March 21 led to the arrest of one of the two occupants of a motorcycle involved in the accident on the Route Royale in Goodlands. On that day, a Suzuki motorcycle had collided head-on with a 22-year-old salesgirl crossing the road on a crosswalk. Seriously injured, the young woman is in critical condition at the Hôpital du Nord and is on artificial respiration. The victim, who lives in Pointe des Lascars, works as a salesgirl at RSB Carousel Doors Ltd.  The young man arrested, who was acting as a rump passenger, put investigators on the trail of the driver, who also lives in Cap Malheureux, but had been in Camp de Masque since the accident. The two 17-year-olds were subsequently questioned by investigators. The cutaway passenger was released, while the driver was taken into custody at the Poudre d’Or police station. On Friday morning, March 22, he was brought before the Pamplemousses court. He is facing a provisional charge of being involved in a serious accident.

A team of police officers led by Chief Inspector Seegoolam, with the assistance of officers from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit, raided the home of this 17-year-old waiter. The teenager was quick to confess to the police that he was the lone passenger and that his friend was driving the motorcycle. After colliding with the young woman on the pedestrian crossing, they abandoned the two-wheeled machine and fled.

Surveillance camera footage enabled the investigators to track down the unfortunate motorcyclist in Cap. Fear and panic prompted them to flee, especially as they did not hold a driving license.
