From her window on the second floor of her living room in Morcellement Saint Antoine, Goodlands, she saw her partner being attacked with a plank by a neighbour on the morning of Thursday January 25. Injured, the 38-year-old man was taken to North Hospital for treatment. He was subsequently allowed to return home. However, on Sunday January 28, his health deteriorated. He was again taken to hospital. After treatment, he was admitted to the ward before being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (Icu). On the evening of Monday January 29, he underwent surgery to amputate a foot. He has since been placed on artificial respiration.
The suspect in this case, Clifford Amédée, a 44-year-old carpenter, was arrested by police on Tuesday morning, January 30.
It was on the morning of Monday January 29 that a police sergeant made a statement for the 31-year-old woman, working as a laboratory operator at Goodlands police station to report a case of serious assault. The victim was her partner, with whom she had been living for seven months. It was around 8 a.m. on the morning of January 25 when she saw her partner being attacked with a board measuring 40 centimetres on his hands and feet. At that precise moment, she was standing in front of a window in her first floor living room.
With the help of her uncle, her companion was taken to hospital. After treatment, he returned home. On Sunday January 28, as his health deteriorated, he was taken to hospital again. After treatment in the emergency department, he was admitted to the ward and subsequently transferred to an ICU ward at around 7pm.
Clifford Amédée was brought before the Pamplemousses court on Tuesday, January 30, on a provisional charge of assault with aggravating circumstances.
