He said he couldn’t help but “relive the nightmare of 1999” at that moment. He said the country was on its knees economically at the time.

The country, he said, is going through difficult times and the government is doing everything it can to relieve the people.
Lesjongard: “Young people have been used to sow violence”
The MSM held a press conference mainly on the incidents that occurred on Friday night. For Joe Lesjongard, these were premeditated acts. “On the night of Friday to Saturday, vulnerable young people were used in places of the country, but mainly in the suburbs of Port Louis, to make disorder and sow violence,” he said. For him, all this is dangerous and it is inconceivable that individuals flout the law and do what they want. He praised the Prime Minister and also went back to the 1999 riots. He even had the report of the Commission of Inquiry chaired by former Chief Justice, Keshoe Parsad Matadeen.
