There will be six runners for the Group 3 event which will be run over 1500m this Saturday. The Gatekeeper is the big favorite in this. Only his heavy handicap can stop him.
Crowned champion in the 4-years-old championship last year, The Gatekeeper began his career in Mauritius by winning three in a row. He then tried his luck in the Maiden Cup (2400m – G1) and was beaten by Twist Of Fate. The Gatekeeper also finished second just 0.60L to Walls Of Dubrovnik in the Gold Cup (1600-G1).
The Gatekeeper has been carefully trained for several weeks under the watchful eye of assistant trainer Subiraj Gujadhur. He seems to have made much progress during the offseason. He will be the horse to beat in this race.
Fools Gold won one race and grabbed two second places during his last three outings. It can be very difficult to ride, but it can be right there at the finish.
Stream Ahead is a very good front runner. The Preetam Daby-trained horse will break from gate number one, and he can try to make it from pillar to post.
It will be more difficult for Special Blend this time. He won in a weaker field on his last outing. He is a good outsider as he is at his best.
Trainer Vincent Allet will rely on two horses transferred from the Gujadhur stable, Holy Warrior and Favour. Holy Warrior won from start to finish over 2100m in 2022. He was very consistent at the end of last season, and he seems to have adapted better to the conditions in Mauritius. He will also be a good outsider just like his stablemate Favour, who is capable of the best and the worst.
