Horse Racing – Meeting 13: Hat-trick For Var’s Elusion?

Must Read

He won the two previous legs of the 3 years old Championship. Var’s Elusion wants to add the cherry on the cake with a third win in the last round which will be run over 1600m at the Champ-de-mars racecourse on Saturday.

Var’s Elusion proved to be a very hard nut to crack in the special championship for the 3 years old colts and geldings. He used his speed on the first leg and won it over 990m. Many racing pundits thought that he would be hard for him in the second round, but he showed that he got some stamina by beating Footy Goal fair and square. Now there still hopes that he will be beaten over 1600m.

Var’s Elusion can score a hat-trick. He showed more progress during his track works after his last win. Var’s Elusion overtook Bold Phoenix easily last Tuesday morning while being restrained by jockey Tejash Juglall.

The 1600m will not be a big deal for Var’s Elusion as he won over 1400m and finished third on 1500m in South Africa. The dark colt will break from the last number at the gates over the 1600m. His opponents will try to make him work a bit to hit the front, but he has got enough gate speed and he will have the all final straight to overtake them.

It will be now or never for Footy Goal to beat Var’s Elusion. He has got the plum draw at the gates and he will have the dream run on the fence. The Michel Lee Shim’s owned gelding showed that he can run close to the pace in his race over 1400m. That proved that his trainer and jockey were rightly questioned by the Racing Stewards on his tactics of following far back on his first outing. Footy Goal was trained to run a cracker, but he will again carry more lead on his back as he will have 60 kg and Var’s Elusion only 52 kg.

Champion trainer Gilbert Rousset will try to upset the favourites with Taking Silk. The gelding did well on his debut securing the third place. He is took full advantage of that first run and he is in a better shape. He will try to follow the leaders closely and strike at the finish.
