Winner of four Group 1 races, Frosted Gold will resume competition this Saturday. He will be the big favorite of the main race which will be run over 1400m for horses with a merit rating of 67 and above.
The gray horse trained by champion trainer Ricky Maingard is ready for his comeback. Frosted Gold won the Princess Margaret Cup (1400m – G1) in 2021 and 2022, The Duke Of York Cup (1600m – G1) in 2021, and The Barbé Cup (1600m – G1) in 2023. He is simply a classy sort who won easily in the Barbé Cup last year when he followed at the back of the pack before finishing strongly.
He won the Princess Margaret Cup but he came back with a nasty injury that required stitches. This shook up his training schedule a few weeks before the 2023 Gold Cup. He still participated finishing third. It was his first loss after a streak of five straight wins.
The horse belonging to People’s Turf PLC Ltd (PTP) main shareholder, Jean Michel Lee Shim, was carefully trained by Ricky Maingard. He is in great shape. His opponents will need to be very strong to beat him with jockey Derreck David in the saddle.
All the other horses of this race have qualities, but they do not have the class of Frosted Gold. They will bet on the difference in the weights that they will carry compared to the 61 kg of Frosted Gold.
Blackburn Roc have bagged two great wins this season. He is in top form, but he will have to be at his best against opponents of a higher level.
Royal Wulff won the The Duchess Of York Cup (1400m – G2) in 2022. He changed stables from Ramapatee Gujadhur to that of Vincent Allet during the off-season. He will be a danger at the finish.
Color My Fate showed great consistency last year with three wins and three second places. He is the only ‘front runner’ of the race who will have a chance because he will be free to dictate his pace at the front.
