The calendar for the 2022 season has been approved by the Commissioner of Police. The Horse Racing Division (HRD) and the MTC Sports And Leisure (MTCSL) worked together on a provisional calendar nearly one month ago. It will include 34 meetings and two ‘breaks’, starting April 9 and ending December 4.
The first of the four biggest races, known as classical races, The Duchess Of York Cup (1400m – G2) is scheduled for April 30 due to the delays in the importation of new runners from South Africa. Reserved for the newly imported horses, this event is usually on the card for the first meeting.
The three other big races which will be run at Weight For Age (WFA) are: The Barbe Cup (1600m – G1) on Sunday 26th of June, The Maiden Cup (2400m – G1) on Sunday 4th of September and The Duke Of York Cup (1600m – G1) on Sunday 6th of November.
The racing season will end with a weekend of races the 2nd and 4th December.
Yashin Emamdee’s request to operate as Stable Supervisor at the Gujadhur Stable has been approved. He will obtain a provisional license pending the production of a recent character certificate.
The other licensees will have to rush as the deadline for renewal of licences is set to 15 March 2022.
