The Horse Racing Division (HRD) published the calendar for the 2023 horse racing season. There will be 36 meetings with only three weekends which will be on September 2 and 3, and December 2 and 3, and December 16 and 17 which will be the date of the last meeting.
There are less race meetings over a longer period compared to last year when the HRD programmed 40 from June to December. The HRD introduced many breaks with seven weeks without racing. The breaks are on April 22, June 17, August 12, November 25, December 9 and there will be two consecutive weeks without racing on September 9 and 16.
The first race meeting is scheduled on March 18 and it will be organised by the People’s Turf PLC Ltd (PTP). There have been no specific dates allocated to the PTP or to the MTC Sports and Leisure Ltd (MTCSL) by the HRD. We will have to wait for the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) General Assembly of Friday to know if the MTCSL will organise races this year. Otherwise all the race meetings will be held by the PTP.
