The first batch of new horse imported from South Africa in 2022 arrived on Saturday 5th of February. The 17 newcomers will strengthen the string of horses of four trainers.
Five times winner, The Contractor, imported for trainer Raj Ramdin, is the most promising with a South-African Rating of 97. The 4 years old gelding won on his last four outings and finished four times in the money.
Ramapatee Gujadhur’s new horse, 3 years old Ziva La Winter, and Samraj Mahadia’s 5 years old Transonic won both three races.
Trainer Alain Perdrau’s yard will be strengthened with the arrival of 13 new horses.
Representatives of the Horse Racing Division (HRD) were present at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport on Saturday night, February 5, 2022, for the reception of the horses from South Africa, in the presence of veterinarians of the Mauritius Turf Club Sports and Leisure, and the representative of the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security.
Wayne Wood, Head of HRD, and Subramaniyam Mahender, Stipe and handicapper, witnessed the operations and inquired about the procedures in place. They also took the opportunity to help verify the identity of the horses that landed.
According to the provisions of the law, the importation of new horses is now done through the HRD.
