Divali will be celebrated on Monday, October 24, 2022. As usual every year, Hindu House has kicked off the Divali celebrations by Non-Governmental Organizations. And the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, and his wife, Kobita Jugnauth were the guests of honor at the celebrations. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage and the Port Louis City Council, was well attended. Pravind Jugnauth spoke of Sri Rama, who should be an inspiration to all political leaders in the world. “Unfortunately, there are those who follow the right path, and others who follow the wrong one. For the PM, there is a culture based on self-interest, pleasure, and enrichment by any means, on the other hand, there is a culture based on service so that there is more peace, harmony, and prosperity. “Without the value of culture, a country can go towards its destruction and experience degradation,” he said.
The Prime Minister also criticized the forces that sow division in society and create communal violence. “I am glad that most of the population does not follow such people. At a time when we are facing difficult situations in the world, all countries are affected. Prices are going up. While we are doing everything to bring the country back to pre-Covid levels, we must not block our economy by creating instabilities and discouraging tourists and investors, and citizens from contributing to the advancement of the country. We must have unity among all Mauritians.
The Prime Minister finally appealed to road users to be careful during the holiday season.
In her speech, Luxshmee Ramdhun-Bundhun, the President of the Socio-Cultural Association, made an outburst against those who, she says, want to take back her seat. She said that they are only thinking of their own interests.
