Another local music icon has left us. It is Georgie Joe. Aged 84, one of the veterans of the sega died this Wednesday evening. The artist did not count any more the tubes.
He had made a fall on May 7. To recover from a crack in the pelvis, he underwent surgery: “Everything went well after his operation. He returned home to Vacoas after a week. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly and on June 9, he had to be admitted again to the Victoria Hospital in Candos. Afterwards, he lost his speech and his condition got worse,” explains Christine Lim Sik Fang – his eldest daughter who still remembers her father as a bon vivant.
Father of 7 children, Georgie Joe, whose real name is Georgie Chamtyoo, began his career in the 1970s. In 1973, he is noticed in Top Pop a singing contest. The artist will then produce hits such as Tel papa tel piti, Mo rakont mo lavi or Mo demann to pardon which continue to make several generations of Mauritians dance from here and elsewhere.
As a reminder, the family of the deceased singer has not yet decided where the funeral will take place at the time of our publication.
