The leader of the Labour Party in Parliament faced the press on Friday. He spoke of growing anger among the population. Referring to the regional government’s decision to rename the MCB Square after SAJ, Arvin Boolell said Sir Anerood Jugnauth’s contribution to the advent of autonomy should be commended. But he said we also must commend Paul Berenger and Serge Clair.
Desalination too expensive says Osman Mahomed
The Labour MP Osman Mahomed spoke about the water problem at the PTr parliamentary group press conference on Friday. He said he was astonished that Joe Lesjongard mentioned desalination so that the population could benefit from a better water supply. “I wonder if he is serious. I can understand desalination being used for Rodrigues. But in Mauritius, it will be extremely expensive, Rs 20 to produce each cubic meter of water,” he said. He severely criticised Prakash Maunthrooa, the new CWA director. “He has been appointed in many sectors. But what expertise does he have in the water sector? I ask Joe Lesjongard to be serious,” said Osman Mahomed.
