An individual who robbed a 63 year old Finnish woman of her gold chain is being actively sought by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Trou aux Biches. The victim and her family members had arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday, October 25. She was walking near the Popo supermarket in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 26, when she was accosted by an individual who grabbed her to take her gold chain by force. This one is estimated at Rs 100 000.
This family coming from Helsinki, Finland will keep a bad memory of their first day of vacations in Mauritius. It is a policeman of the tourist police who recorded this statement of theft for this sexagenarian. It was around 1:40 pm on Tuesday, October 25. The sixty-year-old was walking along the road coming from the Popo supermarket and heading towards the Royal Road. At a certain moment, she saw an individual wearing a black mask, a white T-shirt and blue and black shorts coming in the opposite direction on a bicycle.
When he reached her, the man tried to pull her chain from her neck. In doing so, he scratched his face and fell off his bike. The man tried again to grab her chain and the Finnish woman started to call for help. That’s when her daughter came to her rescue and pushed the suspect away. Both of them fell with the bike. The suspect still managed to steal the gold chain and run away in the direction of Popo supermarket.
The 60-year-old woman suffered a scratch on her face and her daughter injured her foot. They declined to go to the hospital as they were not in pain. The 60 year old woman told the police that she will be able to identify the alleged thief.
The Finnish family is scheduled to leave the country on Tuesday, November 8. The Trou aux Biches CID is actively looking for this suspect who was caught on Safe City cameras.
