The finals of the 6th edition of the Street Dance Battle Competition were held on 16 June 2024, at the Pointe Jerome Recreation Centre in Mahebourg.
The event was graced by the presence of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, Mr Jean Christophe Stephan Toussaint.
Organised by the Mauritius Recreation Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation, the competition drew participants from nine regions, namely: La Valette, Rivière du Rempart, La Cure, Helvetia, Olivia, Le Bouchon, La Chaux, Floréal, and Beau Vallon.
The competition featured four distinct dance styles: Breaking, Hip Hop, Afro, and Kids category, with each category evaluated by a panel of three jury members. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners in each category, with Rs 20,000 to the first-place winners, Rs 15,000 to second place, and Rs 10,000 to third place.
Beyond celebrating individual talent, the event served as a platform to cultivate community spirit and enthusiasm for street dance. It showcased a vibrant cultural exchange and underscored a collective dedication to artistic expression among both participants and spectators. The competition’s success highlighted the growing influence and appreciation of street dance as a significant cultural phenomenon in Mauritius.
