A resident of the village of Ecroignard is the prime suspect of the police in a murder case committed in Camp Filao, Petit Chemin, Bel Air Rivière Sèche. The body of Rambawtee Affigadee, 56 years old, was discovered in a state of decomposition at her home on the morning of Friday, April 7. An autopsy performed at the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis late Friday afternoon attributed her death to a stab wound to the heart.
It was at 8:45 am on Friday April 7 that a team of police officers from the Bel Air Rivière Sèche police station went to the woman’s home. The police was notified by neighbors who said they were bothered by a foul smell. But all the doors and windows of this house were closed. The main door of this house had to be forced open so that the police could gain access inside. In one room, the body of a woman, lying on her stomach, was discovered in a state of decomposition.
Shortly after, this victim was identified by her uncle as Rambawtee Affigadee, residing at La Lucie Roy, Bel Air Rivière Sèche and a vegetable vendor who lived alone. The corpse was later transported to the morgue of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital for an autopsy. Conducted by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer at around 3:00 p.m., the autopsy attributed the death to a stab wound to the heart.
Police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Bel Air Rivière Sèche joined their colleagues from the regular force to conduct this investigation. They are supported by officers of the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) of the Eastern Division.
It was 10 pm on Friday, April 7, when these officers were joined by officers from the Scene Of Crime Office, the Forensic Science Laboratory, the photographer and a police draftsman. Information obtained during fieldwork allowed the police officers to identify the suspect. According to the neighbors, the victim had been a widow for two years, and this resident of Ecroignard, who was homeless, had been coming regularly to the home of the 50-year-old woman. According to the autopsy, the death of this woman dates back to the evening of Monday, April 3.
The companion of this woman is actively sought by the police officers of the CID.
