Yesterday, the police objected to the release of the three constables in the Mahébourg court. On Tuesday, the court was informed that there were no further objections. The police officers were required to provide bail of Rs 5,000 each. Their lawyer, Vijay Cooshna, has filed a motion to strike out the provisional conspiracy charge. The DPP will have to express its position on 18 July.
The driver of the car that hit Rajsingh Ped Mookiah has been remanded in custody until 7 July.
The three constables told investigators that it was Rajsingh Ped Mookiah who asked them to drop him off at Union Park, at the home of a relative. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Plaine Magnien police station received a request for a public order offence in Kenya, Camp-Carol. Rajsingh Ped Mookiah, who was involved in an incident, was taken away in a police van by the three officers.
They dropped him off at Union Park. Rajsingh Ped Mookiah subsequently had an accident. He was fatally struck by a van driven by a resident of L’Escalier.
