It is in a room in isolation at the psychiatric hospital Brown Sequard of Beau-Bassin that an American national will have to complete his quarantine until Saturday, October 23. This 57-year-old scientist was caught in the early hours of Thursday, October 14, after leaving the quarantine center of the Hotel d’Ambre in Belle-Mare.
A statement relating to this case was reported to the police station of Belle-Mère in the late afternoon of Thursday, October 14 by the duty manager of the hotel d’Ambre. In his complaint, the 33-year-old man explained that he was on duty that day at around 5:00 am when he received a phone call from a nurse who informed him that he saw the American with his luggage leaving the hotel through the visitors’ gate near the parking areas. A doctor and two police officers who were on sentry duty there managed to apprehend the fugitive in the vicinity of the Salt Hotel.
He was brought back and the police informed him that he had committed a breach of Quarantine Act. The American national was subsequently transferred to the Brown Sequard Psychiatric Hospital in Beau-Bassin where he was placed in isolation. It was planned that the 50-year-old, who arrived in Mauritius on Saturday, October 9, would leave the quarantine center at the Amber Hotel on Saturday, October 23.
