Kaviraj Seewooduth Poonyth will be exhibiting his work until May 28 at Lakaz Flanbwayan – Medina. Entitled Mystics of Akelbu-Lan the exhibition is an ode to African culture.
Kaviraj lived in Nigeria and other African countries for three years. It was during this period that the artist became very interested in African art: “During my stay, I immersed myself in this culture which is so rich. And for my first solo exhibition, I wanted to present this richness to the Mauritian public,” explains the artist who has several group exhibitions to his credit.
15 works will be exhibited: “I present sculptures, paintings, but also African masks. The exhibition is visible to the public until May 28 from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and Sundays from 10am to 3pm. Access is free for the public.”
In addition, on the sidelines of the World Africa Day celebrated on May 25, Kaviraj will also hold a workshop at Lakaz Flanbwayan: “I invite the public to come and meet us on Thursday, May 25 at Lakaz Flanbwayan for a workshop that will begin at 3:00 pm and end at 4:30 pm. This will be a good opportunity for me to share my passion for African culture.”
