Episcopal Ordination Of Mgr Michel Moura By Cardinal Maurice E. Piat

Mgr Michel Moura, appointed Vicar Apostolic of Rodrigues by Pope Francis on December 20, will be ordained bishop on March 19 in Rodrigues.

Mgr Jean-Michaël Durhône will travel to Rodrigues from March 17 to 20, 2024 to take part in Mgr Moura’s episcopal ordination.

Mgr Durhône will be accompanied by a delegation comprising Father Georgy Kenny, Vicar General, Fathers Eddy Coosnapen, Gérard Mongelard and Jean Maurice Labour, Episcopal Vicars, Father Hervé Gourel de St Pern, Secretary and Chancellor, and Father Pierre Piat, Diocesan Bursar.

During Bishop Durhône’s absence, Father Jean-Claude Véder, episcopal vicar, will administer the diocese.

Consecrating bishops

Bishop Michel Moura will receive episcopal ordination from Cardinal Maurice E. Piat, Bishop Emeritus of Port-Louis and principal celebrant. Cardinal Piat will be assisted by two bishops: Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, Bishop of Port-Louis, and Mgr Alain Harel, President of the Conférence Episcopale De l’Océan Indien and Bishop of Port-Victoria, Seychelles.

The bishops of the region will be in Mauritius for Mgr Moura’s ordination:

– Mgr Tomasz Grysa, Apostolic Nuncio for the region

– Gilbert Aubry (Bishop Emeritus of Saint-Denis de la Réunion)

– Mgr. Pascal Chane Teng (appointed Bishop of Saint-Denis de la Réunion)

– Mgr. Charles Mahuza Yava (Vicar Apostolic of the Comoros Archipelago)

– Mgr. Fabien Raharilamboniaina (President of the Malagasy Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Morondava)

The ordination ceremony will be broadcast live in Mauritius on MBC TV 2 at 2:30pm and on the CAPAV Facebook page.

The people of Rodrigues are actively preparing for this major event.
