A large-scale operation mounted in Cité EDC, Black River by officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the South Division with the assistance of commandos from the National Coast Guard (NCG) and elements of the Special Supporting Unit (SSU) on the morning of Thursday 23 June resulted in the arrest of Louis Jaimi Joseph, 43, for drug trafficking. The man, who is also known as ‘Ti-Papa’, was found in possession of heroin, synthetic drugs and cannabis. The entire amount is worth Rs 395,700. A sum of Rs 31,425 suspected to be from the sale of the drug was also seized.
It was on the basis of certain information concerning drug trafficking in Cité EDC, Black River that a team of ADSU from Chemin-Grenier, led by Inspector Baboorally and Sergeant Sauteur, carried out a simultaneous raid in two houses. They were supported by commandos from the NCG and elements of the SSU.
During the search of the second house in the presence of Jaimi Joseph, who was wearing a t-shirt that read “Ensam nou kontigne developman”, the ADSU officers discovered 494.66 grams of cannabis, 105 packets of the same drug, 13.63 grams of synthetic drug, 43 doses of synthetic drug and 33 doses of heroin. A sum of Rs 31,425, which is suspected to be from the sale of the drug, was also seized.
After a first night in the police cell, Jaimi Joseph was presented before the Bambous court on Friday morning, June 24. He was kept in the police cell on a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
