Active cases on September 24 went upto 29. The rising cases have created an alarming situation as the vaccine for the disease is not yet found. The outbreak has now spread to three districts, all in central Uganda.
Emphasizing on the need for higher caution, the ministry said, “The Ministry of Health Rapid Response Teams remain on ground to list and follow up contacts to the confirmed cases”. Ugandan authorities along with World Health Organization (WHO) in Uganda are constantly visiting affected areas.
The WHO confirmed an outbreak of Ebola virus a week back. The first case confirmed was that of a 24-year-old man who showed symptoms like high fever, diarrhoea, etc and had died a week back.
Travel restrictions on non-essential work and a ban on large public gatherings have already been imposed in Mubende, said health ministry spokeswoman Emma Ainebyoona.
In 2019, there was an Ebola Zaire outbreak in the eastern African country. The neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo, which was struggling with a significant epidemic in its northeastern region, is where the virus was imported from.
The WHO is making efforts to prevent the virus from further spreading by delivering medical supplies, providing logistics and deploying staff to support national authorities.
