The opposition leader held a press conference yesterday afternoon. He returned to his Private Notice Question of the morning, which focused on the land allocated to two socio-cultural associations, then taken back by Government in exchange of land in another region.
Xavier-Luc Duval recalled that Deputy Prime Minister Steven Obeegadoo had stated that three of the four associations that had been granted land at the Réduit Triangle had accepted the proposal to relocate to Côte-d’Or. He added that the Mauritius Tamil Temples Federation had always opposed the government’s project and had organised a demonstration in the capital on the subject.
He added that he had spoken to the IMCA leaders after the PNQ and that they had assured him that they had never accepted the proposal. Xavier-Luc Duval said that he had asked the government’s No 2 to table the documents proving that IMCA had accepted the proposal. But Steven Obeegadoo, according to him, was unable to do so.
Asked about the opposition alliance, Xavier Duval said: “The PMSD is not in the habit of discussing ongoing negotiations in public” and added that discussion continues today.
