Based on certain sources of information and after hours of surveillance, a raid by police officers from the Flying Squad of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) was carried out on Tuesday morning, December 19, at the home of a businessman in Morcellement Bismic, Flic en Flac. A plastic bag containing 106.09 grams of cannabis was found. The drug is suspected of originating from Reunion Island. Suspect Darran Karuthasami, aged 43, was arrested.
The information obtained on this businessman proved to be true, as during the search carried out by the men of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Vineshwar Bahadoor, the police discovered this drug. The suspect was confronted with the evidence before being arrested. He was charged with drug trafficking for the purpose of distribution.
In addition, Ruby Camatchee, née Baurhoo, a 56-year-old woman from Quatreborn, was apprehended on Monday December 18 as she was taking delivery of an envelope at the parcelle section of the central post office in Port Louis. The envelope came from France and contained 4.5 grams of cannabis.
The arrest of the Quatrebornaise was made jointly by customs and Adsu officers working at the post office. The envelope had arrived from France on Air Mauritius flight MK 015 on Tuesday December 12. It contained a semi-transparent sachet of cannabis.
