The Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology and Super Specialist in Corneal Transplant from the United States of America, Dr Siri Shetty, performed, since his arrival in Mauritius on 05 December 2022, a total of five corneal transplants on Mauritian patients at the New Souillac Hospital. He has also screened some 40 patients.
In ceremony held, at the New Souillac Hospital, the Medical Superintendent of the New Souillac Hospital, Dr Anju Vamben-Remy, expressed gratitude towards the Teaching Eye Surgery Foundation who sponsored the mission, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and Dr Shetty for the successful mission in Mauritius.
She recalled that this is the second visit of Dr Shetty in Mauritius this year. He performed six corneal transplant surgeries in May 2022, she added.
On the same occasion, a presentation of the newly acquired Echocardiography Ultrasound Machine to perform cardiac assessment on cataract patients was also made.
Dr Shetty graduated from the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University in 2011. He works in Fresh Meadows, New York, and three other locations and specialises in Ophthalmology. Dr Shetty is affiliated with Queens Hospital Center.
