He was presented before the Port Louis District Court this morning. Dr Rambarun was provisionally charged with sedition. The prosecution has indicated that it has no objection to Maha Prakash Rambarrun being released on bail since he has a clean record. However, a restraining order has been lodged against him.
Dr Rambarun was thus released after paying a bail of Rs 30,000 and signing a debt recognizance of Rs 100,000. Magistrate Azna Bibi Bholah ordered the suspect to remain in a fixed place and not to post any comments on social media.
His next court appearance is scheduled for 6 July.
Dr Rambarun has been charged following certain comments he made on social media about persons from a particular community who died in hospitals. The doctor was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by the CCID police. All indications at that were that he had made some remarks made in a Facebook live regarding a baby who died in hospital and whose parents are crying out for medical negligence.
