The formal notice contains a series of accusations and criticisms against ASP Jagai, but also against Inspector Narainen. They point out that the activist, Bruneau Laurette had specifically targeted the boss of the Special Striking Team and the unit at the rally on 29 October.
Dominique Raya also accuses ASP Jagai of preventing Sanjeev Teeluckdharry from representing Bruneau Laurette following his arrest on 4 November. This is while she has retained the services of the lawyer. In the formal notice, she states that the right to be represented by a lawyer of one’s choice is guaranteed by the Constitution.
In the demand letter, Dominique Raya also accuses ASP Jagai and Inspector Narainen of having prevented Mr. Akil Bissessur from having access to Ryan Lucas Laurette on 6 November.
For Dominique Raya, the actions of ASP Jagai and Inspector Narainen constitute a repeated violation of the suspects’ constitutional rights and a contempt of court; hence, the demand for damages of Rs 20 million on their behalf.
