As part of the celebration of Divali, the Goodlands Hindu Movement organized on Thursday a rally and a procession through the streets of Goodlands. It was an opportunity for members of the movement to distribute Divali cakes to members of the public. The Member of Parliament for the constituency and the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Dr. Anjiv Ramdhany, also participated in this celebration.
According to Raj Chummah, president of the Goodlands Hindu Movement the celebration of Divali in the locality raises a lot of emotions despite the fact that COVID-19 is already here, “We are celebrating Divali to show that we are still here”, said the president of the association. He had to point out that in the absence of Covid 19 this festival is celebrated with pomp in Goodlands. Anjiv Ramdhany, MP for constituency no. 6 (Grand Bay-Golden Powder), agreed. He pointed out that because of the COVID-19, this procession is organized with a limited number of participants. He also pointed out that usually the celebration of Divali in the locality does not attract less than 2000 people.
