These are the figures contained in a press release issued by the Ministry of Health on Friday 30 June. Since 3 June, Mauritius has recorded 54 cases of dengue fever, 49 local and 5 imported, while 50 cases have been detected in Rodrigues. According to the press release, there are currently 15 active cases in Mauritius and 9 in Rodrigues. 39 people have been cured in Mauritius and 41 in Rodrigues, the statement said. Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms include high fever, headaches, body aches, nausea and skin rashes.
Omicron XBB.1.16X sub-variant predominant in Mauritius
The Ministry of Health has sequenced 91 samples collected between 25 May and 2 June. This determined that the Omicron XBB1.16X sub-variant is the most prevalent in Mauritius. In addition, from 23 to 30 June, 29 cases of Covid-19 were recorded through PCR testing. This brings the total number of active cases in the country to 29. To date, four patients have been admitted to ENT Hospital.
